Tennis Injuries in Croydon

Croydon Physiotherapy advice on Tennis Knee injuries

Croydon Gets the Wimbledon Bug

With the Wimbledon tennis championships only a few days old have already had seven retirements through injury a record for one day apparently. Now despite Wimbledon being only a short stone’s throw from Croydon none of these injuries were stone related, it can also be noted that neither were they the ill named tennis elbow.

Tennis elbow – how about tennis knee?

The majority of these tennis injuries related to the knee, which is partly down to what the organisers are calling lush grass. By lush they actually mean damp grass which is often the case the weather in Croydon due to the British summer and this is causing players to slip and injure themselves.

So if you find yourself out at any of Croydon’s tennis clubs such as Sanderstead, Purley Bury or South Croydon do take care and wear good shoes. But if the worst should happen what should you do?

How do I treat a tennis related knee injury?

Well if you have a knee injury the normal rules of R.I.C.E.R apply. That is Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate, Referral, so apply the first aid and seak advice. This is best complemented by adhering to no – H.A.R.M, that is to avoid Heat, Alcohol, Running/exercise, Massage.

Our Croydon based physiotherapists have plenty of experience dealing with tennis related knee injuries. Christopher Mallows held the clinical specialist at the East Surrey Hospital so certainly knows his stuff.
