After a season of fun in the sun, Autumn seems to see a shift back to reality; back to school, university, or work. With this ‘back-to-work’ mindset, it is the perfect time to rebuild your weekly schedule incorporating meal plans and a fitness routine. At Sanderstead Physiotherapy, we hope to inspire you with this blog and encourage you to get moving this Autumn.
Adapt your fitness regime to the season
Now that summer is over the ‘beach body’ aspiration might not hold much motivation in your mind. However, remember that ‘beach bodies’ are made and maintained in winter and finding a new goal over the upcoming months will make that dream easier.
Of course, with the change in the weather, priorities to do with fitness might change. Perhaps a switch from an outside bootcamp to an indoors HIIT class might be needed. Consider investing in a gym membership or buying a few weights so you can work-out from home. But research or ask for help on the best way to use any exercise equipment to help prevent any injuries.
Get outside while you can
Although there may be more of a chill in the air, it shouldn’t be too cold to smash out a run or go for a walk… in fact the cooler temperature will make doing outdoor exercise a little easier, with a breeze to cool you while you work out. Moving deeper into Autumn and towards Winter purchasing thermals, gloves, hats, and earmuffs is suggested if you want to continue exercising outside. Plus, it’s really important to warm up those muscles before embarking on exercise.
Wellness and mindfulness
While, Summer can be a fun time, it can be hectic. It can leave you feeling a little exhausted what with all the summer work-dos to attend, days out with the kids to organise, and holidays to plan! So, your autumn fitness plan is really important for wellness in the winter months. To make things easier, try organising your week on a Sunday evening to work out what days you have free to exercise, relax, attend a fitness club or class, and socialise for the week ahead to ensure your lifestyle is balanced.
Look after your body
This means keeping an eye out for any sprained ankles, back pain, or muscle strains. Overlooking injuries will disrupt your fitness plans and inconvenience many other aspects of your life.
