The days are getting longer, the sun is out, and the weather is getting warmer. The longer days means we are all feeling better and a lot more motivated making the path to fitness a little bit easier. In this blog we have drawn up some tips for health and fitness to help get you ready for the summer.
Exercise isn’t just for the land
On those hot days why don’t you go and make a splash at your local outdoor lido. Get the perfect mix of cardio from swimming combined with soaking up all that vitamin D from the sun (remember your sunscreen though!).
Ramp it up with an app
There are so many amazing apps out there to help motivate you to do fitness and can help you meet targets. Fitness apps can include anything from HIIT through to calming yoga.
Be inspired by others
Why not get your friends together and create a running group? This could be with friends or family. You can all motivate each other, and it is also the perfect time for a catch up which isn’t over a glass of wine!
Set realistic goals
Perhaps you want to lose weight or go down a dress size. Or perhaps you want to be able to run a 5k under 30 mins. Setting goals will keep you going, finding a reason for doing exercise is a huge part of keeping your fitness up.
DIY your own fitness programme
When you are organising your week and creating spaces in your diary for meetings, lunches and socialising, incorporate fitness and exercise into the mix. Get off the bus a stop earlier or meet in cafe in a park. This means you won’t have an excuse to not be exercising.
Be aware of your body
If you have a mild niggle don’t force yourself to push through, take a break and consult with a physio. Pushing through a strained ankle you only notice when you’re running could lead to more serious injury in the long run.
Make sure to have fun on your new fitness ventures, try out new things and form a community. Exercising is only a chore if you make it one. Most importantly listen to your body.
