Avoiding Back Pain with Sanderstead Physio
There is a wealth of information online about the dos and don’ts of exercising with back pain and ways to help prevent it while exercising. So, we’ve gathered a few observations to think about to help you avoid back pain.
Tips to prevent back pain
You may have come across fitness instructors who advise you to ‘go hard or go home’ or ‘work until you can’t work anymore’. However, this may have negative effects. Working too hard can worsen your form due to fatigue, resulting in hurting yourself. It also puts a lot of stress on your muscles which may result in delayed injuries.
Bad form, especially while squatting, can result in significant damage to your spine. Poor posture repeated can cause muscle strain and tear.
With back exercise, be sure to strengthen the core to help support your lower back, don’t focus solely on your back.
Don’t be afraid to ask your gym instructors for advice and reminders on using machines and equipment correctly, especially if you’ve had a gap from visiting the gym due to injury.
